Cello Lessons, all ages all levels, former Seattle Symphony

All ages and all levels, please call Mannfried Funk at 206-282-2777 or shoot me an E-mail..... Competitive rates

Learn the techniques that great performers use in performance and practice. I will teach you how to practice efficiently, saving time and avoiding excessive repetition and redundancy. I will teach you body mechanics that give fluid and effortless facility around the instrument. In teaching these techniques, I also value the broad differences in how people learn as well as how the cello fits into my student’s lives then work according to what is best for the individual. My students find my lessons both fun and productive.

I started at the SF Conservatory at the age of 5 and trained with some of the world’s most renowned teachers. Beside holding a BA and MA in performance, I also have a BA in education and offer proven methods unavailable elsewhere in Seattle. (Extended biography below)

My Lessons:
In my lessons, all the advice I give is supported by thorough explanations based on principles that are indisputable. My students learn the whys and are not left with empty rules on technique. Understanding is essential after all! I believe that for the student to be given the best opportunity to develop musically, nothing can be left in question. My ultimate goal is to teach my students to be their own teacher. I teach both the how and why while inviting my students to question and scrutinize everything including what I teach.

Through my instruction, my students develop a fluid cello technique with complete understanding of the natural physical relationship to the instrument. I offer a technical approach that minimizes muscular force and emphasizes movement through directed shifting of natural weights and balances. My students learn to play the cello with physical ease as they approach more challenging music. Integrated into the lessons are revelations as to the best approach towards productive practice. My approach is from the inside out and guides the student through their internal realization and awareness. Memorization, intonation, and problem solving becomes a matter of course when one learns proper techniques of the mind as they relate to the cello and music.

I am a patient and caring teacher and my studio attracts a complete spectrum of students from young to old and amateur to professional. I value the student’s individual needs and personal goals with the instrument. For those who wish to earn college credits, my lessons are also available through Shoreline and North Seattle Community Colleges.

We're a dual tribute covering both groups. Here's a live recording from Wednesday at the Hi Fi club (Cleveland, Ohio).

http://rhzenvironmental.com/flightathifi.mp3

It should give some idea as to how we are live, and how well it goes over.

We're new to this, and want to do it right. We're happy to be playing this stuff and our goal is to be able to do shows anywhere and everywhere there are fans of these incredible bands.

Any advice on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

This group has a stable lineup that's been together for a few years. Some of us are former members of Eddy's Revenge (the Iron Maiden tribute).

Unsigned?

posted: October 17, 2009, 10:33 AM

Are you an unsigned/independent artist with radio quality songs ready for airplay?
Join this group of artists and get your songs on the RADIO.

It's easy! For an online audition, send us an email with a LINK to your songs.
Our EMAIL ADDRESS is in the lower right corner of the radio site.
The station does not offer downloads but will direct listeners to your homepage.

We promise we'll listen! Sorry, no agents (3rd parties), labels or record companies please.
All genres considered. Make sure we can write you back.

We're looking for quality recordings that are complete and sound like they should be on the RADIO.
Don't send us any files or artwork. You need a website with songs so we can listen. We won't download files.

We don't care if you're famous on MySpace or how many plays you've got in the past or who you've opened up for. It doesn't matter to us.

If you're an agent (3rd party), a management or record company, don't bother. We won't listen.
This is for artists only. The record companies, agents and management companies can pay for their own promotion and radio play. We promote you for FREE.

And, if your song doesn't make it the first time, keep trying.
We have volunteers screening songs for offensive language, distortion, length, low volume, "live" kitchen recordings, overall sound quality, etc. Sometimes, they don't get it perfect.
It's all about getting your music out there!

Although the class is primarily taught on djembe drums (provided), the goal of the class is to teach people to play any hand drum with confidence and flare in any situation (drum circle, on stage, alone, etc.).
Most of all, the goal is to get people to truly enjoy the art of drumming!

We cover basics such as: holding and striking a drum properly, basic coordination drills, easy rhythms, and playing as a group.

Reasons to Drum

Drum circles can be extremely effective for corporations, companies, and small businesses that want to enhance the generation of new ideas and better team work. When people discover that they can collectively produce a good sound without any musical training or background, they start to realize that they can be more effective at work by putting their heads together and working as a team.
Also, drumming uses the brain in a different pattern than the linear thought process that is usually needed in the work environment. A drum circle brings the group to a more open mental and psychological process. The creative side of the brain becomes free to improvise, which can be carried over to the production of new and better ways of working. An excellent tool to kick off any kind of brain storming session, and optimize the quantity and quality of new ideas. I provide the group with the tools they need to figure out the task.

Why Drumming?

Music is a universal language, and drumming is one of the most accessible ways for diverse groups of people to make music together. Drumming encourages teamwork and builds skills in listening, participating, and leadership. Our goal is to help people build stronger communities through making music together in the classroom, at team-building events, and at community gatherings.

In the past few decades, there has been a movement to uncover and recover the ancient art form of drumming and making music together as a community.
The late Babatunde Olatunji, a gifted drummer and inspirational teacher, made it his life mission to help create peace in the world by encouraging people to communicate and celebrate life through music. He said: “All people from all walks of life, all colors, have various things they can do together to create harmony, and it is the simplest to make music and sing together."

The interest in drum circles as a way of community gathering has been growing rapidly all over the world and is happening in many settings. As well as community circles open to the public, facilitated drum circles are being used in schools as an educational tool; are taking place in multi-national corporations and governments for morale building, in health care facilities with the well-elderly, cancer patients, recovering addicts, alzheimer patients ...and the list grows as more people experience the positive effects of self-expression in a creative and friendly environment.

Not only are drum circles a wonderful way to have fun and meet new friends. Other recognized benefits include it as exercise for the mind, body, spirit and a great stress reducer.

Drum circles are coordinated by a facilitator in order to help the group have fun making music together and no musical experience is necessary in order to participate. We are all rhythmical beings! This multi-generational, multi-cultural, activity encourages listening and relating to each other without words and is really a re-connection to the ancient wisdom found in all cultures about the beauty and importance of community gatherings.
