A National Battle of the Bands Event

We are now seeking EVENT Co-Ordinators & Promoters

If you have ever wanted to promote musical events such as concerts or local music shows, this is your chance to learn the ropes and get paid to do it. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a desire to succeed.

We have now completed two annual events in Texas (The Battle for Texas - Houston Regionals). SEE BLOG on www.myspace.com/battleforamerica home page. We are about to roll out into other major Texas cities as well as expand nationwide for the 2010 event. We need co-ordinators to accomplish this. I will personally carry out Texas cities unless I find Co-Ordinators in the other cities such as Dallas, Ft. Worth, San Antonio, etc. I think you get the idea!

We need Co-Ordinators in every state to run the 1 Day events in their major home city and you have the option to take your local city event to every major city in your state. This is similar to a street team concept for a band, except you get paid for your efforts and are part of a national event. There are no fees for you to sign up as a co-ordinator and join the project.

I have all the tools (Registration & Waiver Forms, graphics, etc.) & experience you need to make your event work in your city. Both of our events in Houston were started and successfully completed in 30-45 days from the date of event conception. All you need is the will to take on the event and make some cash in the process. ie: If you find a venue for the event in your city by January 1st, your event should be completed by Jan 31st or mid Feb. at the latest. Then you can do it again later in the year or move to another city.

This is perfect for Recording Studio owners, Graphic Artists that work with bands, Music Store owners, full/part time musicians, entrepreneurs and even Club owners. It's a great way to network your business, studio or band and be part of a national event at the same time.

Your function as an Event Co-Ordinator for The Battle for America:

1) Secure Venue and Date of the event
2) Secure local sponsors (Recording Studios, Music Stores, Graphic Artists, etc)
3) Secure Bands to Compete (I'll show you how)
4) Promote the event locally along with competing bands
5) Secure 3 Event Judges (usually from the sponsors)
6) Host Event (emcee) and hand out local awards at completion of the days events.

If you live in Atlanta, for example, your event will be called:
The Battle for Georgia - Atlanta Regionals

Your event will have a MySpace page tied to this Battle for America page. If you own a recording studio, for example, you will have a banner such as mine: "TBR Studios Presents"

We're an experimental rock band with an emphasis on rhythm, dynamics, harsh sound and other elements. We are seeking a drummer who is able to create unusual as well as conventional beat structures and be able to mesh those beats with those of our auxiliary percussionist, which we are also looking to acquire.

The percussionist would be using scrap metal as well as instruments such as a conga, timbales, bells, and other implements. As a drummer, it would help if you had an industrial background, as well as an understanding and strong awareness of bands such as Swans, Black Flag, Laibach, Throbbing Gristle, Prong, Tad, Killing Joke, Neurosis, Big Black, Savage Republic, Head of David, Godflesh, Arsenal, Unsane, Pigface, SPK, Glenn Branca, Suicide and Whitehouse.These are frames of reference, it is not necessary to know all of these bands.

I ask that you have no drug issues, as well as the ability to transport yourself and your equipment to and from practice, which takes place twice a week. We also require you to pay your portion of the rent at our shared practice space.

We are an organic, experimental rock band seeking an auxiliary percussionist to play alongside a kit drummer, rounding out and augmenting the sound of the band.

We currently consist of a vocalist/guitarist, a bassist and a second guitarist, and are seeking to round out our personnel.

You will be using congas, timbales, wrought-iron scrap metal and assorted items such as bottles, hooves, and knives. I'm looking to incorporate Haitian and Cuban polyrhythms into the music to emphasize and augment the beats with the drummer as needed for each song, helping to forge a unique, creative sound. I can teach you these rhythms. The percussive element of the band is a strong component, and we are looking for someone who will not just accompany the drummer, but build up a sense of dynamic and aggression.

It would help if you had an industrial/underground/avant-garde background, as well as an intimate understanding and strong awareness of bands such as Swans, Laibach, Throbbing Gristle, Prong, Killing Joke, Big Black, Savage Republic, Head of David, Godflesh, Arsenal, Unsane, Pigface, and Whitehouse.

Several compositions are completed, and I plan to teach those to newcomers, as well as other completed songs that I am working on now. I presently have the songs to present to interested parties. We are consistently writing, and I expect to build on a naturally evolving sound.

The current music is evident of bands such as early Swans, Neurosis, Godflesh, Damaged/My War/Slip It In-era Black Flag, and Big Black. The first few compositions sound this way, but I expect to build on a naturally evolving sound.

We have a practice space in a 24-hour facility, and it is required that you contribute monthly to the rent, as well as transport yourself and your equipment to and from practice.

An avant-garde/industrial background is appreciated, but not entirely necessary. A willingness to adapt and learn works best.

Among a myriad of influences, the notable ones are: Swans, Black Flag, Neurosis, Big Black, SPK, Pigface, Jarboe, Diamanda Galas, The Body Lovers/Body Haters, Killing Joke, Laibach, Black Sabbath, Savage Republic, Throbbing Gristle, Head of David, Arsenal, Scorn, Coil, Autumn Fair, Birthday Party, Faust, Godflesh, Suicide, DNA, Mars, a mess of hardcore punk, No-Wave, post-punk and metal bands, and many more. There are elements of many sub-genres of rock music in our material, as well as many non-rock influences. Based on this, I expect to build on a naturally evolving sound.

Thank you very much! I've been playing for 40 years pretty much in the rock and roll and blues vein. Ive always wanted to learn the modes, but frankly my playing was at least to me, decent enough to have been in a few relatively "successful" local bar bands, as a lead guitarist, but Ive always known that something was lacking, and knowing modes was one of them. I am 52 years old, and my playing has become stagnant. When I saw your posting on Craigslist I was intrigued. I have a Boss looper and Ive started to do what was suggested in your tutorial, by just playing these patterns over an A minor, and a couple of other keys, and yes, it absolutely does work. As I am self taught, I have never learned proper theory, and this shortcut will help immensely. Thanks again for the extra help. I will study this, as time permits. I just needed a little clarification in order to make sure that I was heading in the right direction. Your method is so simple, that I thought I had to be missing something.
