Greetings from PeaceTrees Vietnam!
Thank you for your interest in joining one of our journeys to Vietnam.
We have a new trip coming up this Fall.
Dates for September 2013:
Trip dates are September 16-29, 2013. We plan to have the group fly in at Tan Son Nhat airport in HCM city and fly out of the Noi Bai airport in Hanoi.
Cost for September 2013 trip:
Please estimate trip cost around $3,500-$4,000, which includes airfare (economy class seats) to Vietnam from Seattle (TBD by flights), all in-country transportation, all lodging, most meals, administrative costs and project costs. Some personal expenses will be incurred during free time for meals and taxis, etc. Add-on flight fees to our departure point of Seattle are not included.
Firm commitment and a non-refundable $500 application fee are due by July 5th.
This deposit goes towards total trip payment. The first payment is due on or before
July 26th, when airline tickets must be paid for. A copy of your passport, medical information forms and signed application are also due at this time.
Final payment is to be paid on or before August 16th. This is the day we're hoping to have our trip orientation workshop. Please mark it on your calendar.
If you choose to cancel your travel with us on or before JULY 16th, we will retain $300 of your deposit.
If you choose to cancel on or before AUGUST 2nd, we will retain your $500 deposit and the cost of airfare.
If you choose to cancel on or before AUGUST 16th, we will retain your full payment.
In unforeseen circumstances, PeaceTrees Vietnam may cancel the trip if there are not enough participants committed to the trip. If the Citizen Diplomacy trip is cancelled, you will receive all funds that you paid, including the $500 non-refundable application fee. A typical delegation has between 12-18 participants, with a minimum of 10 participants.
If you would like to join our September trip, please fill out the attached Citizen Diplomacy Application and send it back with your deposit. Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions. We will need to receive your non-refundable $500 application fee (earmarked "September 2013 trip") by JUNE 28th, along with your application.
As soon as we receive your deposit and application, we will reserve your space for the September 2013 trip and our Board of Directors will review your application. Upon approval we will send you further instructions regarding payment amounts, itinerary, paperwork, medical preparation, what to bring, etc. We deeply appreciate your interest in making a hands-on contribution to our work of promoting peace, friendship and renewal in Vietnam. Please feel free to contact us with any questions. We look forward to hearing from you!
The main purpose of our trips is citizen diplomacy - ordinary citizens building relationships with other ordinary citizens. Planting trees and sharing in community service projects are great vehicles for learning more about our Vietnamese friends, and we find that working side-by-side allows our understanding of one another to grow.
Our trips include several days at the beginning and end to explore Vietnam in its many facets - its scooter-filled cities, gracious old towns, beautiful beaches and sobering battlefields. But the real heart of the trip takes place in Quang Tri province, an area which endured some of the heaviest bombardment and deadliest conflicts of the Vietnam War.
The activities in Quang Tri are designed to provide as much personal and meaningful interaction as possible between our travelers and the Vietnamese people. After 18 years of working in the province, PeaceTrees Vietnam has established many close relationships of trust and friendship with the people there. These strong ties help to open doors and shed light on life as it's lived by the 'real Vietnamese' - a perspective largely unavailable to the average tourist.
PeaceTrees Vietnam's Citizen Diplomacy Trips are designed to reach beyond sweeping
stereotypes and simple explanations to present Vietnam in a way that's both complex and deeply personal. The resulting journey is eventful and enriching, and the rewards of the experience are unforgettable.
During the September 2013 trip we will have the unique opportunity of participating in the dedication of a new community kindergarten sponsored by the Grace Community of Bainbridge Island.
