Estate Planning Council of Seattle presents:

2017 Estate Planning Seminar

Nov. 9, 8 a.m. to 5:25 p.m. and Nov. 10, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Seattle

With President Donald Trump proposing the end of the federal estate tax and the state of Washington continuing to tax individual estates over $2.12 million, uncertainty reigns for estate planners. Those attending the 62nd annual Estate Planning Seminar will learn how to navigate these challenges.

The federal estate tax for years had been in flux until, in 2011, Congress settled at taxing only estates above $5 million. It is once again facing changes as Trump proposes repealing it altogether. Meanwhile, Washington state residents pay taxes on estates above $2.12 million - regardless of what happens to the federal tax. Those attending the Estate Planning Seminar, sponsored by the Estate Planning Council of Seattle and the University of Washington School of Law, will discuss this and a multitude of other estate planning topics. They include estate planning for unmarried couples, privacy planning in a public world, the psychology of giving, and planning with regulated assets, including alcohol, guns and cannabis.

Nearly 1,000 estate planners from Washington state and elsewhere in the country are expected to attend the seminar, one of the largest of its kind in the country. It attracts top lawyers, accountants, insurance professionals, trust officers, financial planners, and planned giving/development officers for nonprofit organizations.
