Thanksgiving Day Community Class, 9:30-11:00am

with Susan Turtletaub
$8 with food donation, $15 without food donation

While the turkey, tofurkey and sweet spuds are roasting, join us for a
joyous yoga class! What better way to start your celebration of gratitude than with a nourishing, energizing and soothing practice.
We will begin our practice by stoking our digestive fire (agni) through dynamic breath work, asana-flow, and cleansing twists. Then we’ll carry that bright inner glow into a series of mindful restorative postures to cultivate deep gratitude within ourselves. The class will be presented to promote playful exploration and gentle, potent unwinding, to bring you into a true holiday spirit. All welcome.
And, you’ll be supporting your community as you support yourself -- all proceeds will be donated to Solid Ground, a non-profit that offers programs to combat poverty, prejudice and homelessness in King County and beyond.

Please donate non-perishable foods. www.solid-ground.org

PRACTICAL PRANAYAMA: Tools for Stress Relief, Mental Clarity and Better Health

PRACTICAL PRANAYAMA:
Tools for Stress Relief, Mental Clarity and Better Health
at The Yoga Tree
with Irene Alexander
November 29, 1:00-3:30pm

During holidays, our regular routines are overturned, giving us time for reflection, connection and renewal. Of course, losing our routine can also challenge our stability and make it difficult to maintain practices of self-care. This workshop is designed for the season, to offer you simple practices that you can do anywhere to ease stress, stay healthy and connect to genuine gratitude and caring.

Pranayama is the ancient art of directing your own energy – soothing anxiety, boosting a sluggish or depressed system, and generally balancing your moods and metabolism so that you can harness your power. This is done through breathing exercises as well as visualization and meditation techniques. Because these practices are subtle, they can be on an airplane or during a meeting, as well as in your own home. We all know that taking a few deep breaths can help us quiet fear or anger and make clearer decisions. This is an example of pranayama.

In this workshop you will learn many ways to use your breath to aid with specific ailments such as insomnia, asthma, anxiety, indigestion, chronic pain, and more. You will also learn practices for general well-being, and best of all, you’ll be able to experience the benefits of these practices through a delicious afternoon of insights and inspirations. We’ll combine gentle movement, restorative postures, instruction and practice into the perfect post-Thanksgiving Sunday afternoon.

No experience necessary.

GATHER & RESTORE: A Workshop for Moving into Winter
with Cicely Andree
Saturday, November 21, 1:00-3:30pm

As the days become shorter and darkness of winter arrives, we have an opportunity to dialogue with what the season brings. Winter is a time of contemplation, stillness and going within. When we go inward with patience and gentleness, we uncover parts of ourselves that have been living beneath the surface. Often this time of unraveling and letting go brings grace as we hold the space for our own discoveries.

Come join us as we explore creating ease and stillness in the body to prepare for the quiet of Winter. This workshop will incorporate gentle yoga poses and movements to access the parasympathetic nervous system. When working with this system, we can experience a great amount of change and renewal in the body and mind, which nourishes and calms us. We will begin the workshop with floor-based dance movements to create fluidity in the body. Mindful partner work will be explored to take us deeper into our bodies and access the parasympathetic nervous system. We will continue to explore using restorative poses that involve gentle supported forward bends, twists, back-bending and inversions. The workshop will finish with simple pranayama and a luscious long savasana.

The workshops will be taught in a slow, focused manner and is open to all levels of practitioners. Participants will receive a handout of sequences for use at home throughout the Winter months!
