We build the platform at the core of Amazon Mobile Shopping apps for iOS and Android and we need your help building the mission critical frameworks and systems that will make our apps faster, better and smaller. Thousands of engineers and content schedulers from across Amazon deploy their features using our frameworks and systems. As a leader on the mobile shopping team, you will be at the core of this platform. Engineers from across the company will look to you for guidance on how to build their mobile feature. As a technical leader, you will be required to perform as a software architect, interfacing with technical and business leaders from across the company. You will identify bottlenecks to innovation and drive effective solutions to them. You will gather customer:facing requirements and distill those requirements into software architecture and system design to accelerate innovation while raising the engineering quality bar. More than 72 percent of Amazon customers worldwide shopped using a mobile device during the 2016 holiday season. Shopping on the free Amazon mobile app grew by 56 percent this holiday, worldwide. On Cyber Monday, Amazon customers worldwide purchased about 46 electronics per second on a mobile device. On Cyber Monday, Amazon customers worldwide purchased about 36 toys per second on a mobile device. We are a relatively new team with aggressive hiring goals and we are committed to diversity in the tech industry. We need senior engineering leaders who are passionate about building strong teams around them. You will be required to teach and mentor other engineers, give technical presentations and training sessions and write effective documentation for the systems you build. We own the low:level components within the apps at the most critical interaction points with customers. We are responsible for making app startup and navigation as fast as possible. You will lead the deep investigation into these critical sections, uncover bottlenecks with data, and build new components and systems to make the customer experience amazingly fast. The Amazon apps will be 10 years old in 2017. As a technical leader on the mobile shopping team, you will lead the complete re:architecture of the apps. We need you to lead initiatives to build the extensible frameworks and systems that will empower thousands of engineers to innovate within the apps for the next 10 years. You must specify the high:level architecture of these frameworks and lead the migration from our legacy codebase. You must be effective at delegating to other engineers by creating actionable tasks with low ambiguity. We are the traffic cops in the Amazon apps. We own enforcing engineering excellence and raising the quality bar for thousands of engineers inside the apps. As a technical leader, you must build data driven, automated A?closed:loopA? systems that enforce engineering excellence for all app contributors. You will be required to lead by example by setting a high bar for engineers across the company. You will evaluate off:the:shelf tools to solve problems or implement custom tools if necessary to enforce quality and information security for our customers. No mobile experience is required : but you must have a strong Customer Obsession and a passion to Learn and Be Curious.4+ years professional experience in software developmentProficiency in Computer Science fundamentals : object oriented design, data structures, algorithm : design, problem solving, and complexity analysisProficiency in at least one modern object oriented language such as Objective:C, C++ or JavaProficiency in at least one scripting language such as JavaScript, Python, Perl or RubyBachelors degree in Computer Science or related fieldExperience in web technologies such as JavaScript and HTML5Experience building complex mobile applications on Android and iOS platforms that have been successfully delivered to customersExperience delivering low:latency, consumer:internet:scale web service
