Senior Technical Project Manager Role Available with Kaiser Permanente Washington!

The Senior Technical Project Manager (TPM) is a critical and valuable part of our team. The Senior TPM will lead large cross-functional IT project teams composed of numerous IT staff from multiple IT disciplines and business/clinical subject matter experts from multiple departments. The Senior TPM Is responsible for the planning, development and execution of complex technical IT solutions along with project management. This position will provide IT technical expertise such as: programming, database and data design, networking, application interfacing and use of multiple IT technical tools to manage technology.

The Senior TPM will apply lean principles and A3 thinking to problem solve, resolve process issues and improve customer experience. The Senior TPM consults with business and IT leadership, management, and work unit teams, analyzes and documents current and future state workflow processes and IT system configuration and recommends strategies for optimal integration of IT systems and use.

Responsibilities will include:

  • W orks closely with the application engineering teams to help define and lead implementation of cross-functional and significantly technical projects
  • Develops and manages project budgets, including professional services, to ensure project is within budget
  • Works with functional managers and business stakeholders to acquire, schedule and manage project resources
  • Works with the technical engineering IT staff to define project team tasks, assumptions, deliverables, dependencies, issue resolution and escalates when appropriate
  • Conducts requirements analysis, solutions selection and implementation
  • Works cross-functionally to ensure clear communications across multiple teams including Business Partners, IT Engineering and Applications teams , Field Services, Operations, Compliance and Enterprise Security
  • Provides project reporting and status to IT Enablement Director and other senior management
  • Works with Infrastructure leadership to ensure successful execution of infrastructure solutions and upgrades
  • Works with technology solution delivery teams & vendors to determine optimal methods for implementation and maintenance
  • Establishes track record of successfully leading large scale or multiple, simultaneous midsized Infrastructure projects
  • Adheres to technical standards and reference architecture
  • Identifies gaps in processes and procedures while seeking a method to correct them


Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science / Information Technology or combination of Bachelor's Degree and equivalent Computer Science / Information Technology experience.

Preferred Education
Master's Degree in Computer Sciences / Information Technology or combination of Master's Degree and equivalent Computer Science / Information Technology experience.

Minimum Knowledge/Skills Requirements
Advanced ability to learn computer applications from a business and IT principles perspective to integrate into project planning. Ability to learn new skills quickly and apply them. Self-directed learner comfortable with constantly evolving environments. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills required. Skilled in project management methods and consultant techniques and approaches. Proficiency in use of MS Project, Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Advanced computer programming, database/data design, application integration technology and technical IT tools. Advanced ability to translate technical subject matter into concise, clear communication understood by technical and non-technical leaders and users. Accomplished interpersonal oral and written communications skills. Demonstrated aptitude to plan and organize complex work for self and others and direct and assist others to meet quality and timeline targets and budget.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills
Advanced working knowledge of management systems, business practices and Lean quality improvement principles and methods. Advanced computer programming, database/data design, application integration technology and technical IT tools. Advanced IT analytic and project management knowledge and proficiency.

Minimum Experience Requirements
6 years of experience in management of medium-scale, complex IT projects.
8 years of experience in IT software design, build, testing and implementation of medium-scale, complex projects.

Preferred Experience
8 years of experience in management of large-scale, complex IT projects.
10 or more years of experience in IT software design, build, testing and implementation of large-scale, complex projects.

Minimum License/Certifications Requirements
None required.

Preferred License/Certifications
At time of hire Project Management certification.
