This position leads the creation of Virginia Mason Institute's coaching services and learning experiences that aim to improve patient safety, patient experience, and the quality, cost and delivery of health care.

The manager of research and product development provides leadership to a team that conducts research, compiles information, designs, develops, and maintains all Virginia Mason Institute coaching and educational services (products). This role works with senior management to set the vision for products, lead new product development initiatives, manage the product life cycle, identify and select new product ideas, determine the perceived value and price of all institute products, and develop partnerships essential to the development of products.

Job responsibilities include:

* Oversee and direct the creation of new products and maintenance (or sun setting) of existing products, including: the conducting of research, analysis information, and development, design, maintenance and quality assurance of all products. Manage budgeted expenses accordingly.

* Ensure appropriate, regular communication with and buy-in from Virginia Mason executives for new products.

* Conduct cross functional collaboration with marketing, sales, operations, client support and service delivery workgroups fostering a team environment that consists of trust and empowerment.

* Develop annual performance objectives for team and direct reports.

* Utilize technical skills to understand risk and provide input to scale investments and products appropriately.

* Utilize knowledge of the business strategy and market to prioritize new product ideas, with recommendations from the pricing analyst. Shape and validate the problem a product solves and provide the design constraints related to the business.

* Manage resources to align to business strategies and organizational goals, in regards to market research, product developed, and products maintained.

* Continuously work to adapt product and pricing strategy to meet market demands and achieve business goals.

* Lead efforts to continually improve the institute's approach to pricing products using research and proprietary methods for establishing the price for all current and new products.

This position places strong emphasis on the following outcomes:

* Development of products that help the institute achieve long-term business growth

* Aggressive development and dissemination of best practices for product development

* Cultivation of a highly effective product development workgroup

* Master's degree in business administration or equivalent relevant experience required.

* Eight years of relevant product development experience,

* Five years of relevant management experience

* Functional knowledge and experience with product development best practices and industry trends, and exceptionally strong relationship management and communication skills.

* Demonstrated talent and passion for innovation is required as is conceptual and behavioral commitment to lean thinking and lean practice.

Master's degree in business administration and experience outside health care, especially in an industry environment that uses rapid prototyping and/or is rapidly adapting to market trends is preferred. Health care and working in an environment that rapidly adapts to market trends is preferred.

This position requires completion of Advanced VMPS for Leaders by one year employment anniversary.
