The College of Education has an outstanding opportunity for a Director of Information & Learning Technologies.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration, the Director of Information & Learning Technologies provides strategic leadership and operational management in all matters related to information technology in the College of Education. The Director is responsible for infrastructure, staffing, and services to meet the College's current and emerging IT needs, including innovative applications of emerging learning and information technologies that enhance and expand teaching and learning, research activities, information management, administrative tasks, and community involvement. The Director must be highly effective in working with individuals and teams; have the ability to focus on results while appreciating process; and be skilled at driving decision-making and implementation.

The position advises senior CoE leadership and other CoE stakeholders at all levels, and implements best practices and guidelines for all IT initiatives within the CoE. The Director of Information and Learning Technologies interprets, maintains, and implements UW policies and procedures, making recommendations and implementing organizational efficiencies throughout the CoE regarding complex IT issues. This position requires a commitment to client service, the ability to work collaboratively in a changing environment, and the skill to work with members of the University community (faculty, staff, and students) who have diverse technology skills.

The UW CoE is one of the nation's top-ranked Colleges of Education in the country and a leader in change in schools through education, research, and service. This position provides decision-support to senior leadership on important IT issues, represents the CoE with internal and external stakeholders, and demonstrates effective IT leadership. This position provides a critical role in the enhancement of student education and technical support for CoE faculty and staff. The Director assures that CoE faculty and staff technological needs are met and provides excellent client services and support, maintains maximum uptime, and provides a secure and friendly environment that is conducive to advancing education. This position will play a key role in supporting the on-going mission and strategic plan of the College of Education, ensuring that CoE initiatives are aligned with those designated and performed by UW-IT.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Leadership & Communication

* Develop strategic IT plans, including improvements and new initiatives.

* Provide strategic leadership, vision, and support for College efforts to build and launch innovative outreach and revenue generating programs.

* Communicate IT issues, needs, and/or recommendations to the CoE leadership, the College at large, and to external stakeholders.

* Provide leadership, vision, and support for faculty efforts to incorporate instructional technologies and new content delivery methods into curriculum and practice in all programs of instruction.

* Provide leadership, vision, and support for CoE educational programs as it relates to instructional technology coursework and student outcomes.

* Collaborate with other IT stakeholders within the CoE, CoE-affiliated Research Centers, UW campus, and at other academic institutions to establish IT best practices, formulate policies, strengthen client relationships, and share COE solutions and resources.

* Ensure success of technology projects supporting the Administrative and Research needs of the college.

* Ensure the CoE's computing and data environments are configured to meet or exceed UW Security Standards. Maintain a College Data Security Plan.

* Remain current with developments in IT, instructional, and online education and emerging technologies.

* Apply knowledge of the UW and CoE to continually improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization; furnish decision makers with well-researched solutions to continual and non-recurring challenges facing the organization.

Management & Operations

* Supervise and manage IT staff which includes hiring, training, team building, development, and performance reviews.

* Recommend and use evaluation methodologies (metrics) to assist in the performance reporting.

* Analyze findings, identify areas requiring improvement, and pursue more efficient methods/processes.

* Develop Help Desk standards, policies, practices, and procedures necessary to ensure the highest level of customer service for CoE faculty, staff, and students.

* Oversee instructional technology, operational computing, web-based services and information management for the College, including staffing, support, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all of the College's technology systems.

* Oversee maintenance of software updates, backups, and network security by technical support staff and ensure FERPA compliance.

* Direct desktop support; hardware maintenance; software, database, and web development; faculty, staff, and student computing need support; and audio-visual support for classrooms (on-site, as well as distance-based formats).

* Develop and manage the CoE IT budget, monitor expenditures, and negotiate contracts include Data Security Agreements.

* Oversee administrative and policy tasks related to the planning, acquisition and distribution of computing equipment and the rendering of services related to computing.

* Oversee and/or advise technology at CoE Centers including staffing, support, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Centers' technology systems.

Miscellaneous

* Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic plans of the College.

REQUIREMENTS:

* Master's degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Instructional Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

* 8 years or more experience in delivering and managing information technology services in a complex environment. At least 2-5+ of those years in management experience.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to clearly explain technology to a non-technical audience.

* Experience with process improvement techniques and a record of innovation and success in computing services aligned with institutional goals.

* Strong leadership skills.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

* Doctorate degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Instructional Technology, Computer Science, or related field.

* Senior level experience in an academic environment.

* Ability to work independently with a high degree of integrity, reliability, accuracy and productivity.

* Experience working with large networks, high availability web sites, virtualization, and various Internet technologies.

* Demonstrated experience consulting with faculty, conducting training/coaching, curriculum development and/or utilizing learning technology in a classroom setting is desired.
