Our Recreation & Wellness department, has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness.

Program management and student advising

* Oversee the day to day operations of Recreation & Wellness department programming, inclusive of fitness program, fitness studio facilities and classes, budget management, and marketing.

* Work with Director to develop long and short-term strategic goals, which are in alignment and support of the Division of Student Affairs strategic direction.

* Plan, administer, and promote group fitness program, while aligning all classes and procedures to industry standard.

* Develop collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and departments to provide additional learning opportunities for students.

* Oversee and provide guidance in the preparation of contracts and other related documents as necessary as they relate to the department.

* Advise and educate the Recreation and Wellness professional and student staff of applicable Federal, State, University and Student Affairs policies, procedures and rules regarding operations; which is inclusive of expenditures of funds. As well as educate students on the intent and rational behind regulations.

* Develop an increasing pool of students for leadership positions throughout campus and increase co-curricular learning opportunities for all students.

* Work with Director of Recreation & Wellness on development and assessment of policies and procedures.

* Keep Director of Recreation & Wellness apprised of emerging or ongoing issues in areas of responsibility.

Supervise, recruit, train, advise and evaluate full-time professional and student staff

* Serve as primary supervisor to 2 Program Managers (Health Promotion and Outdoor Wellness)

* Recruit, train, and evaluate professional and student staff.

* Advise and supervise Fitness instructors, Health Educators Reaching Out (HERO's), Outdoor Wellness Leaders and other student positions reporting to Recreation and Wellness.

* Work with Director to develop, assess, and revise learning outcomes for professional staff, student staff, and the office.

Administrative and operations management

* Active involvement and oversight of reconciliation of Recreation and Wellness budgets from a variety of funding sources, including state funds and student fees.

* Plan, administer, and promote group fitness program, while aligning all classes and procedures to industry standard.

* Ensures that Recreation and Wellness is prepared for small and large scale emergencies risk management.

* Plan, facilitate, and schedule staff meetings.

* Serve on Division of Student Affairs and University related committees; and work cooperatively with colleagues on campus and at other institutions.

* Stay abreast of best practices and network with colleagues via professional associations.

* Staff major events and programs, including campus events, for example, Convocation, Graduation, Student Housing, Move in, Orientation, etc.

Other duties as assigned

* Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Affairs & Director of Recreation and Wellness.

REQUIRED:

* Bachelor's Degree in Education, Administration and Supervision, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, or related field.

* At least three years of experience in the field of Recreation & Wellness or similar higher education fields.

* A demonstrated record of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills.

* Experience supervising and mentoring student staff.

* Experience in fitness center program development.

* Experience in developing marketing initiatives.

* Demonstrated excellence in leadership and managerial skills and the capacity to supervise and lead staff.

* Ability to work with a diverse constituency.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED:

* Master's Degree in Education, Administration and Supervision, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, or related field.

* Experience supervising professional staff or classified staff.

* Demonstrated experience with risk management and University policies.

* Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory and developing and creating student learning outcomes.

* Demonstrated experience developing student program and programming focused on learning and development.

* Familiarity with Fusion, OrgSync, or similar group management software platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

A work schedule that fluctuates due to after-hours activities, meetings, and events is common. The Assistant Director is expected to attend major student activities and events held on campus and in the local community. The Assistant Director has regular and frequent contact with students. As well as, frequent contact with faculty, staff, and administrators. Late night and weekend hours are part of the normal work week and frequent work from home is necessary in order to research new programs and attend to reports and requests for briefings. The position requires significant evening and weekend commitments throughout the year.
