General Summary Highline College is situated in a diverse community just 20 minutes south of Seattle where we serve a student population of over 70% students of color, representing over 35 nations and more than 100 languages. The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) will be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the respiratory care program, including organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of locations (with appropriate supervision) for evolving practice skills, and the general effectiveness of the clinical experience. The DCE reports to the Academic Affairs Office through the Division Chair: Health, Physical Education, and Education, as a member of the Respiratory Care Department. POSITION AND SALARY: This position is an exempt, at-will, full-time position.Hours of workinclude evening, weekend andtravel. ANTICIPATED DATE OF EMPLOYMENT: July 1, 2017 Essential Tasks Under the Direct Supervision of the Division Chair: Health, Physical Education and Education. Administrative: * Organize and manage all aspects of the clinical education experiences for respiratory care students; * Responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of clinical experiences to include clinical evaluations, physician contact, student assignment, and clinical records; * Ensure clinical scheduling and placement for students; * Assure instructional quality of clinical education by regular visits to clinical education facilities; * Ensure and maintain compliance of clinical program following CoARC standards. Includes communication and preparation of reports with appropriate agencies as well as the district and college administration; * Assist with identifying and recruiting advisory committee members; * Perform other duties as assigned. Teaching: * Teach theory, lab, and clinical classes to a diverse student population, with an emphasis on best practices. Assignment may include face-to-face (on or off-campus), online, hybrid, and/or evening/weekend classes; * Promote meaningful student learning in course content as established in the course and campus-wide student learning outcomes, and participate actively in instructional assessment activities; * Teaching assignment will be 2/3 or less of a 45-credit teaching load. Service: * Engage in department, division, and college initiatives; * Participate in shared governance; promote the college's values, and perform other contracted duties (for example, advising, community outreach) as required. Professional development: * Pursue appropriate professional development activities to stay current in assigned teaching field and technical field; * Maintain comprehensive, current knowledge of the local, regional, and national respiratory care community. Qualifications SKILLS AND ABILITIES: At Highline, successful applicants for positions in instruction demonstrate the ability to promote: * Active, inclusive learning environments and curricula that welcome and engage all students, incorporating instructional and medical technologies, as appropriate, to improve student attainment; * Cultural responsiveness in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, identities, and educational experiences; * Collaborative approaches to day-to-day activities, to the development of innovations and new initiatives, and, when necessary, to problem-solving; * Self-reflection on his or her teaching, leadership, professional development, and service to the campus community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in respiratory care or related field of study from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE); * Graduate of a CoARC accredited respiratory care program; * Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Credential; * Current, unencumbered State of Washington Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license, or the ability to obtain license prior to employment; * Four years' experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two years in clinical respiratory care; * Two years' experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree in respiratory care or related field of study from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education (USDE); * Certified Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty credential certified and/or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist credential; * BLS, ACLS, PALS and/or NRP Certification.
