Job Description: General Summary The Office of University Ministries (OUM) at Seattle Pacific equips students as they prepare for a lifetime of engaging the culture and changing the world. Our aim is holistic formation in students ? spiritually, intellectually, and vocationally. Made up of Campus Ministries (CM) and the John Perkins Center, OUM staff focuses our work on facilitating worship, discipleship, and reconciliation through ministry events, developing student leaders, and pastoral care relationships. More specifically, Campus Ministries staff serve as SPU's campus pastors, helping students build lasting relationships and discover how their lives fit into God's plan for the world. The Minister of Worship serves as the primary resource for leading worship on behalf of University Ministries. In this way, the Minister of Worship will lead the SPU community in worship that is representative of our students, staff, and faculty, aiming for both an ecumenical and a multi-cultural approach. This includes worship through music, but also involves exploring the many ways to worship God through creative expression of art, literature, dance and other ancient and contemporary forms. Through this, the Minister of Worship will have opportunity to serve as both a worship leader and a liturgist, while also leading as a valued member of our team of campus pastors, speaking into the general spiritual formation of SPU. Job Duties * Plan, lead, and execute all aspects of weekly University-wide chapel service in collaboration with University Chaplain, Gather student worship team, and other departments and musicians on campus. * Advising and mentorship of Gather team, as well as production related administrative duties related to service planning, venue and equipment coordination, and collaboration with speakers. * In partnership with Associate Director of Campus Ministries, serve as a second advisor for the Group student worship ministry, with special emphasis on music and tech staff. Includes input into service planning, and facilitating weekly rehearsals for the development of students as musicians and worship leaders. * Provide worship & production leadership for all special worship services throughout the year (ie, Opening Communion, Ash Wednesday, Baccalaureate etc.) * Work with CM staff to plan, coordinate and participate in ministry programs which encourage students to build a maturing, personal faith. Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in Music, Worship, Theology, or Other Related Field, or commensurate experience as worship pastor. * Experience developing and leading worship services for diverse audiences (culturally, theologically, high/low church, etc.). * Experience developing and mentoring aspiring worship leaders/musicians. * Demonstrated musical proficiency (vocal and/or instrumental), in a range of musical genres. * Ability to lead band rehearsals and arrange music. * Strength in written and oral communication. * Strong organizational and administrative capabilities. * Ability to mentor students individually and corporately. * Ability to be a strong collaborator between varied stakeholders (students, staff, and faculty). * Must demonstrate a Christian commitment consonant with SPU's Statement of Faith, mission, and values. * Desire to work in a team setting for the spiritual health of student body. * Demonstrated management of own time. * Flexibility due to variable work hours. * Ability to work evenings and weekends (typically 2 evenings/week, though occasionally extra beyond this). * Familiarity with audio and visual technology necessary to produce worship services.
