Job Description (Local candidates only.) The Elementary Head Teacher is essential for SAGA in order to provide a high quality education for its students. The teacher works with the Director of Elementary Education and in cooperation with other elementary teachers to implement a comprehensive and interesting curriculum in a structured classroom. These objectives are accomplished in a German immersion environment. Teachers in this position adhere to the Washington State and Thüringen curriculum standards and maintain an excellent standard of learning and achievement. The ideal candidate must be comfortable in the planning, organizing, and implementing of education services for children. Position Responsibilities: Create a secure and comfortable classroom environment that reflects the diversity of cultures, religious beliefs and norms within German-speaking communities Appropriately challenge children’s individual German language ability on a daily basis. Conduct all classroom instruction in German Encourage students to work together to resolve conflicts and problem-solve Effectively communicate and collaborate with co-workers, parents, board members, and students Conduct parent teacher conferences twice a year in a respectful and constructive manner Plan yearly curriculum and create weekly lesson plans. Develop parallel themes with colleagues Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, health, and, where applicable, art, music and sport to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the SAGA Board, and other appropriate learning activities Manage the classroom appropriately and follow the School’s policies and procedures Teacher reports to the Director of Elementary Education and works with the Director to address challenging classroom dynamics Work with School leaders and the Board to be an active part of the growth of the school and the elementary program If necessary, teacher is able to work with, mentor and guide a teaching assistant Perform related duties as assigned Qualifications Fluent in English and German; Must be able to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with coworkers and parents in both languages Bachelor’s degree (with foreign teacher certification) or Master’s in Elementary Education preferred Current Washington State teaching certificate, preferred Background check required; Must be eligible to work in the US Minimum three years teaching experience Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with adults and students Ability to work independently with moderate amount of supervision Reliability and punctuality; maintain confidentiality CPR/First-Aid certified for children and adults Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, email communication, and cloud services (ie Google Drive) Positive work attitude at all times Working Conditions: Part time; participate in monthly before school staff meetings and weekly team meetings Must have the flexibility to accommodate evening and/or weekend work, as required
