Title Associate Scientist : Protein and Peptide Chemistry

Job Description PURPOSE:
The Protein and Peptide Chemistry Department in Seattle is engaged in early target discovery and validation for the development of novel therapies for the treatment of obesity and type 1 diabetes. The Associate Scientist will support the protein chemistry and peptide engineering to deliver lead and candidate molecules for various research projects.
Reports to functional area head in Protein and Peptide Chemistry Seattle. Internal relationships include the project teams and research colleagues internally and globally. Communicates data and collaborates externally when required.
- Synthesize and purification of peptides and modified proteins with high efficiency and high quality to support the discovery chemistry
- Characterization of synthetic peptides and modified proteins by various methods including RP:HPLC:MS, SEC, IEX and other biophysical instruments
- Formulation of synthetic peptides and modified proteins for in vitro, in vivo studies and chemical and biophysical analysis
- Routine maintenance of the chemistry lab instruments including analytical HPLC, prep. HPLC, mass spec. and peptide synthesizers etc.
- Effectively communicate and work with supervisor and colleagues to promote a world:class research environment
- A Master degree in chemistry with a minimum of 4 years of experience or a Bachelor's degree in chemistry with a minimum of 6 years of experience. Senior Associate Scientist title may be considered commensurate with experience.
- A background in organic chemistry, protein chemistry or chemical biology is strongly preferred
- Scholarly excellence in Science as appropriately documented
- Strong ability to learn new technology and understand drug discovery process
- Strong commitment to research in a team environment focused on cutting:edge, industrial drug discovery
- Experiences in peptide synthesis, protein modification is desired
- Experience in peptide and protein purification, characterization and formulation is desired
- Effective written and oral communication skills; Development and maintenance of good internal relationships
