The Apheresis Nurse at SCCA performs cell collections and therapeutic apheresis procedures for adult and pediatric patients, related donors, and volunteer research subjects in three local inpatient and outpatient settings. Unit ProfileBusiness hours are M:F, 7:00 am : 5:30 pm, with on:call therapeutic services 24 hours a day (call responsibility is minimal and rarely results in a worked assignment: 1 night every 1:2 weeks, 1 weekend every 6:8 weeks, 2 holidays per year).Nurse:to:patient ratio is 1:1We are supported by two Medical Directors, a Professional Practice Coordinator, Research Coordinator, Certified Nurse Assistant, Program Coordinators and Assistants and the SCCA Cellular Therapy Division.New hires are provided a comprehensive apheresis training program, including in:house bone marrow transplant and oncology courses.SCCA Nurses have a say in our governance and make decisions collaboratively with our clinical partners.Our Apheresis Nurses have over 220 years of combined apheresis experiencePerforms all apheresis procedures for all patients and donors in all locations served. Assesses patient/donor medical history and clinical condition for procedural concerns, risks and contraindications to apheresis.Reviews donor health history questionnaires, justifications and other related documentation before collection, according to SOPs and regulatory guides.Obtains laboratory blood samples, reports critical lab results to medical providers and manages corrective action per orders.Monitors the patient / donor response to the procedure and make technical and medication changes appropriately. Communicates with medical provider teams and Apheresis Medical Directors to address potential and immediate clinical concerns.Processes apheresis products, including labeling and delivery in compliance with regulatory documentation. Adheres to unit policies and procedures compliant with regulatory requirements documentation; follows FDA, FACT, CAP and other regulatory requirements and guidance.Accepts rotating on:call assignment for nights, weekends and holidays.Accepts rotating Charge Nurse assignment, responsible for daily workflow management, staff assignments, scheduling changes, environmental safety and interfacing with other departments.Assist in policy and procedure development, review, revision and implementation. Graduate of accredited School of NursingBachelors of Science, Nursing : preferred2 : 3 years nursing experience : oncology, critical care, dialysis and ECMO experience a plusCurrent Washington State RN licenseExcellent venipuncture skills, experience with vascular access devicesCertification of BLS, Health Care Provider C, with renewal every 2 yearsAble to move (push / pull / carry) required equipment: apheresis machines, vital signs monitors, IV pumps, equipment cartsAvailable for night / weekend / holiday on:call coverageBasic computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills*5,000 sign:on bonus eligible for qualified applicants* What is Apheresis?Apheresis is a procedure using a medical device that removes whole blood from the body, separates the whole blood by centrifugation into different cell components, and either discards, replaces or treats and returns those cell components back to the body.
