The Enterprise Technologies Division of Comtech Telecommunications Corp., is immediately seeking a Sr. Software Engineer in the Seattle office. This senior-level professional is a seasoned individual who applies an advanced, in-depth knowledge of technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The right candidate is fully competent to work on complex development assignments and deliver solutions qualified for in-network/hosted product operation. They must be able to document solution well enough to allow customer's staff to administer after installation and validation.

Candidate is expected to have a firm grasp of system administration, network protocols, networking issues and solutions, system monitoring, and databases. The candidate may act as a member of quick-response deployment-support team and will often work under demanding deadlines, operating as a team member as well as independently to resolve complex problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Document steps to install, upgrade, and backup and recover operating systems for use by testers, customer support personnel, and wireless application engineers.

* Work with other Design Engineers to plan, design and implement systems in a heterogeneous, distributed computing production environment.

* Research, specify, evaluate, test and recommend hardware and supporting software components within the OS specialty area.

* Uses structured development practices to design, code, compile, and test production programs of a complex nature.

* Responsible for capacity planning, performance management, security management and fault management of the production systems.

* Perform security analysis, hardening, and vulnerability scanning of development reference systems.

* Provide leadership in enabling and enforcing security controls on VMs, servers, network, and cloud architectures.

* Maintain high-availability and mission-critical environments.

* Provide Tier III support for system hardware, Operating System and application related issues.

* Work with vendors for product evaluation and selection.

* Stays abreast of technological trends in the Operating System of specialty and enabling technologies.

* Demonstrate consistent leadership in Design Engineering.

* Other duties as assigned

SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Self-initiated and ability to independently make accurate and timely decisions

* Very strong verbal and written communication skills are a must have; demonstrated experience with direct customer interaction highly required;

* Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experienced with integration and deployment issues involved in supporting a turnkey product in a customer environment.

* Ability to interface with the customers and orient the team toward the right architectural goals for the product

* Minimum 10 years experience with Unix System Administration.

* Minimum 10 years experience with Redhat/CentOS/Fedora (v6.x/v7.x).

* Minimum 5 years experience with system security and network security.

* Minimum 5 years experience with Bourne/Bash shell scripting.

* Minimum 5 years of experience with TCP/IP socket connection theory and programming.

* Minimum 3-5 years experience with Kickstart/PXE Boot/Grub.

* Minimum 3-5 years experience with standard UNIX tools, i.e., sed, awk, Expect.

* Minimum 4-5 years experience building, automating, and supporting distributed computing environments.

* Minimum 2-3 years experience with Ansible, CFEngine (v3), Puppet, or Chef.

* Minimum 2-3 years experience with OpenStack Cloud (Kilo->) or AWS deployments.

* Minimum 2-5 years experience with Cisco Networking.

* Minimum 3 years experience with Logical Volume Manger.

* Any experience with node.js is a big plus

* Minimum 5 years experience in a heterogeneous system environment.

* 3-5 years of experience with YUM Repositories.

* 1-2 years of experience with SNMP.

* Experienced with disaster recovery methods.

* Willing to work overtime and on-call as necessary to meet organizational needs.

* Bachelor Degree in technical disciplines a plus.

* Experience with database configuration and management a plus.

* Prefer experience with Atlassian Tools (Perforce, Jira, .).

* Experience and understanding of the telecommunications industry is a plus.
