Summary: The Cost Accountant performs all cost accounting and closing activities related to our manufacturing operations, acts as administrator for the company travel management system (Concur) and has forecast/analytical responsibilities for the marketing and admin groups. Responsibilities: . Works in collaboration with the finance team members on the month end financial closing activities. . Develops an understanding of manufacturing operations; alerts management to potential issues, when appropriate. . Maintains Standard Costs. . Acts as Administrator for the company's travel management system: Concur. . Proactively develops reporting tools, reports and analyzes information enabling operational counterparts and management to respond to potential exposures. . Creates ad-hoc and standing reports using SAP By DesignPrepares government surveys. . Coordinates with IT and Operations departments for system issues, maintenance and development, for example production, purchasing, import/export, accounts payable, accounts receivable, import/export IT, receiving, shipping, and other. . Analyzes cost accounting data and assists with cycle count/physical inventories. . Maintains internal control documentation and tests internal controls. . Prepares detailed account analysis and reconcile sales, cost and inventory, liability accounts by customer type by division. . Reviews and analyzes inventory and margin reports, conducts research and performs analytical studies in regards to cost analyses and profitability. . Ensures timely submission, accuracy and validity of inventory, gross margin schedules to management. . Works on special projects, as required. . Assists other Finance team members as needed and as necessary. . Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned Qualifications: Education: . Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. . CPA or CMA designation a plus. Experience: . 2+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 1 of those years working in cost accounting required. . Experience in the life sciences sector or other regulated industry preferred. . Public company or public accounting experience a plus. Skills and Competencies: . Strong knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards Principles, and the ability to analyze and reconcile complex accounts and reserves. . Ability to apply knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles & Cost Accounting Standards. . Ability to learn and adapt to new and different computer systems and software (including ERP systems) to enable efficient data gathering and analysis. . Proven ability to research, compile, analyze and interpret data. . Strong knowledge and proficiency in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Sarbanes-Oxley. . Knowledge of compliance requirements and principles. . Ability to understand the importance of how various components interrelate to the larger picture. . Strong organizational and problem solving skills. Possesses the ability to manage multiple tasks by prioritizing and working efficiently in a team setting. . Proven, consistent attention to detail and accuracy are critical. . Effective negotiation skills with superior ability to build rapport with internal and external customers. . High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint required. Visio skills desirable. . A proven record of consistently following through on commitments. Maintains and communicates realistic schedules and meets or beats deadlines. . Service oriented approach, flexible and proactive towards changing needs.
